Birthday parties can be stressful if you allow them to be. Growing up, I didn’t have many birthday parties, just a cake and 1 or 2 gifts from my parents. So I knew that once I got my Corgi, I would want to be ‘that’ dog mom and go all out! Arty’s been fortunate enough to have 3 birthdays with us. And, they have all been different. So, if you want to know how to throw your Corgi a birthday party here is how!
The Cake

Okay, the most basic/important thing you can get for a birthday party is a cake (Your corgi will thank you)! I’m not a baker so baking Arty a cake wasn’t an option for me. I thought about buying the ingredients but it just seemed overly complicated and I knew if I did some research I could find some local dog bakeries. For the last 3 years, we’ve been going to Top Dog Barkery! You can choose the size, shape, color, and ingredients of your cake through their website! Super easy, not costly, and they are very friendly. I usually order the cake 2-3 days before I’m set to pick it up just so they have enough time to make it. Arty loves it and it usually lasts a few days after his party. During Arty’s 1st birthday, we invited some of Arty’s dog friends and everyone enjoyed a piece of cake! Make sure you check and ask what your Corgi is allergic to, just so you’re safe and so is your pooch! The next step for planning a party is decorations!
Decorations

You’d be surprised how many decorations you can find online for your Corgi party! Amazon is my go-to for any party decorations because I can save to my cart, compare prices, and pick from different themes. The first year I went all out, had balloons, a treat bowl, and threw a party for humans and dogs! The second-year was right before COVID, so we threw a birthday party at the dog park and gave out treat bags to every dog at the dog park! We also shared Arty’s cake with everyone! This year, we had a more quiet party and didn’t decorate but still threw on a hat and had some cake! It depends on how much time you want to invest in the party. But you can never go wrong with just a hat and bandana to celebrate your Corgi! Please click on the items below to check out Arty’s birthday decorations over the years!
Friends

Pre-COVID, Birthday parties were the norm, even for dogs! Invite your closest pup friends, share chew toys and treats! But with everything going on in the world, humans aren’t necessarily having parties and neither are dogs. My advise for those that want to throw a birthday party for your Corgi but not sure it’s the right move, just know, your Corgi won’t remember not having a birthday party at age 2. More often, we throw these parties for ourselves more than for our dogs. Arty hasn’t had a party with dog friends in over a year, but we make it a point every year to celebrate him because we’re happy he’s alive and here with us! Another great idea would be to make treat bags for your Corgi’s friends, that way, they get to take a piece of the party without having to attend the actual thing.
Final Thoughts
Throwing your Corgi a party shouldn’t be stressful! Birthday parties are supposed to be fun and only happen once a year! A few tips and tricks to ensure your Corgi party is a success:
- Plan whether you are going to bake a cake or buy a cake!
- Do you have time and space to decorate a room in your apartment or house for your Corgi! (Don’t forget to take photos!)
- If you want to throw a big Corgi party with friends, make sure it is outdoors. This will make your guest feel more comfortable, and the dogs get to run around and play.
- Making treat bags before the party will save you time and stress! Every great party has goody bags!
- Make sure your Corgi has fun and try to change it up each year so your Corgi feels special every time!
