Hi furriends! So last year a lot happened. We moved to Westminster, CA for a smaller apartment that was more affordable for me and my partner. If you follow Arty on Instagram you know the move did not go so well. Arty was depressed. I googled and read articles about dog’s moving and how the transition is, and some articles said it was depression. I showed Arty extra love, got him a bunch of new toys (they didn’t last long), and got him all kinds of treats. Nothing worked. This was around July 2019. It was my partner’s birthday at the end of July. He kept saying how he wanted another dog. We just moved, and were finally going to be able to save money for a house in the future. I tried to convince myself why we shouldn’t get another dog, and I thought, the puppy stage, the poop, the barking, the crying. But then I thought, Arty would get so much joy from having a brother or sister to play with.
It did not take us long before we were at the Puppy store looking at which dog we were going to bring home to Arty. There was only one answer, Golden Retriever. My partner had been obsessed with that breed ever since Homeward Bound. If you haven’t seen that movie, go watch! We looked around and found this cute Golden Retriever pup with long ears. We were hooked! We got to play with her in a small gated area. Her whimpering and galloping won us over. We signed the paper work and received a bag of food and some vaccines and were off!

When we brought her home, Arty was instantly happy and in love! They got along so well! I read a few articles about getting a new dog and how sometimes it can go bad and they don’t get along or they constantly fight for attention. We were so lucky that Arty & Bonnie got along so well! We definitely believe it was socializing Arty at a young age that helped with this. When I asked my partner what was going to be her name, he automatically said Bonnie. And she looked like a Bonnie.

A few things looking back now that we’ve had Bonnie for a little over a year:
- If you are going to have a Golden, they need a big backyard to run. We live in a small apartment and try to get her out as much as possible to run and play.
- Ensure that even though your dogs get along well, never leave them alone unattended for hours.
- Show both dogs the same amount of affection.
- Also, if you can, adopt don’t shop. We realized that we got Bonnie because my partner wanted a Golden specifically and those are hard to come by at shelters. But knowing what we know now, there are plenty of dogs out there that need to be adopted.
We are blessed to have 2 amazing dogs that get along so well and are so freaking cute! Please continue to follow our adventures! 🙂
